Step 2: Sit Down with Us
Once you connect with us, you will be invited to come in for a conversation with a literacy staff member at Joplin NALA Read. You will get an overview of the program and can see what the program has to offer. You will find out what you can expect and what’s expected of you. We will help you fill out a Student Data Sheet so that we can match you with a trained tutor. Get a smart start on your learning goals by reading and signing our Student Agreement.
Step 3: Let the Learning Begin!
Soon after your meeting with literacy staff, you will be called and matched with a trained volunteer tutor. The tutor will call you and together you can schedule a time and a day that is convenient for both of you. Typically tutors and learners meet once or twice a week for about an hour at Joplin NALA.
- You set the pace. There is no pressure, just a supportive environment for learning at your own speed.
- We will supply you with books and materials but your are also welcome to bring books and materials from home or work to the tutoring session.
- You and the volunteer tutor are a team. You can expect mutual respect and a positive experience.
- If for any reason you do not feel comfortable with your tutor, just call Joplin NALA Read and we will work with you to find another tutor.
