Watch Gary Stubblefield, NALA Board Member, talk about Joplin NALA Read's Kitchen Reader project and share his recipe for Chess Pie with Carol Parker on KSN. The Kitchen Reader is part cookbook part story book. It features recipes and stories from our students, volunteer tutors, staff, and friends of NALA including a few celebrity guest recipes by Carol Parker from Cooking with Carol!
The Kitchen Reader project was developed by NALA to help students use their reading, writing, and vocabulary skills to give instructions. Publishing the Kitchen Reader gives students a sense of pride in seeing their work in print while also allowing us to showcase the wide variety of people who utilize NALA's services and share the impact of NALA on the community. Published Kitchen Readers will be for sale to raise funds to grow and improve our programs. All proceeds will benefit the literacy efforts of the adult learners featured in the book and many others just like them. You can bid on the very first Kitchen Readers in the silent auction at the 2015 Spell Ball at Joplin High School on Tuesday, March 24th, 2015 at 6:00 pm.
