Summer ESL -- Field Trip Fridays
Our Summer ESL vocabulary class worked through a variety of vocabulary topics then practiced their new skills while out and about in Joplin. See the photos below of some of the places we visited.
Last Friday we visited City Hall. We saw the council chambers and visited the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Patrick told us about the Thomas Hart Benton mural. This is our group standing in front of the Heart of America display. The heart represents Joplin and each piece of yarn stretches to locations around the world where volunteers traveled from to aide in the tornado relief efforts.
We saw the Wood at Play exhibit in the main gallery and the Luminary Animals exhibit in the Regional Gallery at Spiva Center for the Arts.
On our guided tour of The Chocolate Factory we learned how the candy centers are made and saw where the chocolate coating is added. They buy special chocolate in very large bars, melt the chocolate, then send the candy centers down the conveyor for coating and cooling. The candy is packaged for sale across the country.
After the tour we shopped in the candy store!
