Why be a tutor? That’s a good question. Listen as our tutors share their experiences.

Patty: Our students give more to us than we ever give them. The pleasure in playing a part in helping someone learn is so unexpected and rewarding.

Lorraine: There is nothing like seeing the light come on in my student’s eyes.

Julie: For the first time my student was able to read her own mail from a friend.

Dean: He recognizes words he didn’t know a month ago and feels good about himself.

Sandra: Looking forward to tutoring keeps me going, keeps me up and doing.

Joyce: Well, I started tutoring ‘cause my husband retired, and I said to myself, “I married him for better or worse but not for lunch.” Working with my student is very fulfilling, and I return home a happy person.

You can be a tutor, also. Our program asks that you commit to two hours a week, if possible, for six months. In our workshop you will learn about NALA, strategies for teaching reading, the differences between Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language students. We’ll share the resources available to you, lesson plans, and reporting requirements.

We will equip you to teach your student. Your time and talents will shape another person’s future!
